In a joint press conference this morning, Kimi Raikkonen and reigning F1 Champion Sebastian Vettel declared they are now BFFs (best friends forever) after an emotional weekend of bonding in Bahrain.
After a tense weekend of F1 being in the spotlight, Vettel said there was little to do in Bahrain due to tight security and it’s because of this that he grew close to Raikkonen as they spent more time together.

“Kimi and I had a fantastic weekend away together” explained Vettel. “We had some real quality time away from the track and we shared some really special times together. With both Kimi and I finishing on the podium, it could not have been a more fitting way to finish our special getaway together.”

Raikkonen finished in second place behind Vettel and admitted he could have passed but could not bring himself to take the win from his new BFF. ”I had one chance to pass” explained Raikkonen. “I could have out-braked him into turn one but I could not stop thinking about when the two of us were playing Risk until 4am the previous night. He let me win South America without putting up a fight. I felt I had to return the favor and so let him keep the lead.”

The close relationship between the two drivers was noticed by other members of the Red Bull team including team principal Christian Horner “It’s great that Seb has got himself a new BFF. He has really struggled since his falling out with Timo [Glock]. The two of them used to be inseparable but when Timo stopped texting, Seb became really agitated and lost form at the start of the season. It’s great that he has someone to play with now in his spare time, we should see the Vettel we are used to again now.”
