Etihad Airways hosted a ‘Kimi Day’ trip for a group of Emirati children aspiring to become the future driving stars of UAE, with a visit from Kimi Raikkonen, the Formula One world champion.

Raikkonen, also known as the ‘Flying Finn’ held a special Q & A with the youngsters at the Emirates Palace hotel before riding in an Etihad Airways flight simulator.

During the ‘Kimi Day’ Raikkonen also visited Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall to open a new Etihad Holidays Shop and to challenge members of the public to a special simulated F1 driving game.

Etihad Airways is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates and sponsors Raikkonen’s Ferrari F1 team as well as the ‘Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix’ staged in the UAE capital in November.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad's executive VP marketing and product, said ‘Kimi Day’ helped to generate enormous excitement.
He added, “The growing association we are building with Ferrari and F1 is an integral part of our international sports sponsorship strategy, to help Etihad reach a global audience and bring Abu Dhabi to the world.”
It seems associations between Ferrari and Abu Dhabi will continue to grow as a 2,500 acre theme park worth USD600 and set to open in 2009, will be built in the Emirate and on the Yas Marina circuit.
The Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will take place on November 15, 2009, the last race in the 19-race F1 season.
