Hamilton and Raikkonen among Laureus nominees

2007 championship rivals Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton have both been nominated for prestigious Laureus awards, it was announced on Thursday. The annual event, which will be held in February, recognises sporting achievements. World champion Raikkonen is one of six nominees in the ‘Sportsman of the Year’ category, while McLaren driver Hamilton finds himself in the ‘Breakthrough of the Year’ category for a second consecutive year. The young British driver failed to win the award in 2007 after losing out to tennis player Amelie Mauresmo.Raikkonen’s team, Ferrari, have also been honoured with a nomination in the ‘Team of the Year’ category. The Italian squad, who clinched a historic 15th world title in 2007, will be up against five other sporting outfits, including AC Milan football club and the Australia Men’s cricket team.The 2008 Laureus Awards ceremony will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia on February 18.
